Spring Trip Announcement- Costa Rica!

Dear OFHS Families,

I’m excited to share details about our Spring Trip. Our Spring Trip Student Group has decided on Costa Rica as our destination, from May 11 to 15, 2026! We are finalizing the flight details with Copa Airlines and are very excited for our first international high school spring trip!

Why We Travel

In Montessori adolescent education, travel serves a developmental purpose beyond typical school field trips. Our spring trips provide students with opportunities to step outside their familiar communities, encounter new perspectives and ways of life, and develop the independence and confidence that comes from navigating unfamiliar environments together.

These experiences support valorization- the essential recognition adolescents need that they are capable, competent people who can contribute positively to their community. Travel challenges students to adapt, problem-solve, collaborate, and discover their own resourcefulness.

Our Spring Trip Student Team has been hard at work making this experience a reality. Students have researched potential destinations, built detailed budgets comparing costs and logistics, analyzed travel options, and explored activities that would make this trip both meaningful and memorable. Through this process, they’ve developed real-world skills in research, financial planning, collaborative decision-making, and project management—exactly the kind of authentic work that prepares adolescents for life beyond school.

How We’re Funding This Experience

OFHS will cover some of the travel costs. Students will be fundraising to support the activities and experiences they want to include in the trip. Stay tuned for information about how you can support their fundraising efforts- our first event will be a Lower School movie night!

The school is asking each family to contribute $250 toward trip costs, due by January 7th. If your family needs financial assistance with this fee, please email Karen at karen@onenessfamily.org.

Students have also begun to plan our itinerary, which will include activities related to Humanities and STEM, a college visit, a service project, and cultural immersive opportunities. Students are currently looking to enjoy the tropical environment with surfing, hiking, spending time at the beach, zip lining, and visiting the Arenal volcano.

Next Steps

Students will need a valid passport for this trip. Please ensure your student’s passport is current and will not expire before November 2026. Additional trip details, including itinerary specifics, packing lists, and permission forms, will be shared in early 2026. Students will be crafting the itinerary and packing list with our staff in the coming weeks to plan a truly exciting trip experience.

Please let us know if you have any questions!

Best,

Andrew and the OFHS Team
