MMUN Trip Details

Dear MMUN Students and Parents,

It is hard to believe that we are just about a month away from our trip to the Montessori Model United Nations in New York. This letter is to provide you with details about our trip including transportation, our itinerary, what to pack, and the cost for the trip.

Transportation:

Hannah and Luis will be accompanying the students to New York. We will be leaving on Wednesday, March 11th, taking the Vamoose bus, departing from 7401 Waverly Street (at the corner of Montgomery Avenue, next to the parking garage entrance). Students should arrive at the bus stop with all of their belongings no later than 10:00 AM. We will depart Bethesda at 10:30 AM and should arrive at Penn Station between 2:30 and 3:00 PM. Students will need snacks and lunch for the bus ride.  When we arrive we will take the subway to the Marriott Marquis where the conference is being held.

We will return to Bethesda on the Vamoose bus departing New York on Saturday, March 14th  at 6:30 PM. The bus is scheduled to arrive in Bethesda at 10:30 PM. We will be in contact during our bus trip with updates. Students should be picked up at the bus stop Saturday night. If a student will be picked up by someone other than a parent, please let us know in advance of the trip if possible.

What to Pack:

Students will need dress clothes and shoes for the opening ceremony on Wednesday night, the committee sessions on Thursday and Friday, and the final voting on Saturday morning. The rest of the time, students can wear casual clothes. However, the casual clothes that they pack should be neat and clean, without holes or stains. Students will also need comfortable, closed-toe shoes for the times we will be walking. Finally, it is too early to know what the weather will be like but generally in March the temperatures tend to be in the low to mid 40s during the day and the 30s at night so students should pack warm clothes and plan on dressing in layers when we are out of the hotel. We have attached a detailed packing list as well as the MMUN dress guidelines to use as you plan and pack.

Cost:

The overall cost of the trip, including conference fees, transportation, lodging, and food is $1900 per student. We are covering most of this cost with our class budget, class supplies fees, and fundraising. In order to make up the difference between our budget and fundraising and the cost of the trip, we are asking that families pay $350 each.  Payment can be made by credit card using this link or you can submit a check to Hannah by Friday, March 3rd. If you cannot pay by this date, please email Hannah so we can make alternate arrangements.

Finally, we ask that you read, discuss, and sign the attached trip commitment form and return it as soon as you are able. Everyone has worked hard to prepare for the conference and we are excited to have this fantastic opportunity. Please do not hesitate to call or email with any questions or concerns.

Take care,

Hannah Chick
