Friday Update – February 27

Dear Families,

We hope you are doing well! We have a few dates for you to keep in mind. This is a longer email with several important details. If you have any follow-up questions, we would be happy to connect during conferences next week and we will provide a printed copy of upcoming dates for you then as well.

March 11th we have a field trip to the National Portrait Gallery, which we tentatively might change to the Natural History Museum since we postponed that trip from February 25th. We’ll update you early next week but for now the plan remains the same.

The Science Fair will be held on March 18th. Your child brought home their Science Fair packet in their folder today. In class, students have brainstormed, researched, revised, and selected their final proposals. The next phase of work happens at home: creating a prototype or model, designing their display/vision board, and drafting a blueprint or design plan. Projects are due back at school on Wednesday, March 17th so we can prepare for the event. The parent viewing occurs between 12:30 and 1:30 and it is a full day of school for the students.

Echo Hill Outdoor School (April 6–8):
Students will attend a three-day, two-night outdoor learning experience aligned with our current studies. We, Emiko and Andrea will accompany students along with Echo Hill’s trained staff. Registration is due as soon as possible. The cost is $175 (due March 1). Please let us know promptly if your child will not be attending, as participation impacts our planning.

Lastly, we had a mouse sighting in the Academy classroom, likely due to an extended winter, and it was addressed immediately. Our facilities team thoroughly inspected the space, sealed any potential entry points, and we have reviewed cleaning and food storage procedures out of an abundance of caution. We are also temporarily having students eat lunch outside. We will continue monitoring closely to ensure our classroom remains clean, safe, and comfortable.

Progress reports should arrive in the mail next week. We look forward to seeing you at parent conferences on March 5th and 6th to celebrate your student’s achievement and growth!

Have a good weekend,

Andrea and Emiko
