Good afternoon,
It is hard to believe the cycle is almost over! Students have wrapped up their Natural World studies for the cycle and are looking at the geography and cultures of the Inca, Aztec, and Maya. Tomorrow is the last day of regular academic work and final projects begin on Friday.
Important Dates and Reminders
Friday, February 6th – Thursday, February 12th — Final Projects
Students will be working in their groups to complete their final projects for Cycle 2. During final projects, students will continue to have World Language, math, and electives. All other work times will be dedicated to final projects.
Monday, February 9th — Completed Work Binders Due
Completed work binders should be organized by week and according to the order on the checklists to be turned in Monday morning so that they can be graded as quickly as possible. This is the last day to turn in work for the cycle unless you have had a prior conversation with us about extended time.
Monday, February 9th and Tuesday, February 10th — Conference Sign-up Opens
Conference sign-ups will open at noon on Monday, Feb 9, for all parents with more than one student at Oneness and at noon on Tuesday, Feb 10th, for everyone else. Conferences are on Thursday, March 5th and Friday, March 6th. Please keep an eye out for sign up details from the school. As a reminder, conferences in the Ambassadors are student-led and students must be present for their conference.
Tuesday, February 10th — On Campus; Final Project Work
Friday, February 13th — No Levine classes; Final Project Presentations 12:15 PM
Parents are warmly invited to join us in the Peace Ambassadors classroom for final project presentations which will begin at 12:15 and will be done by dismissal. Each group will be presenting two projects, one for NW and one for SW. We cannot be certain how long they will take or when any particular group’s presentations will happen. Please let us know if you plan to join us so we can be sure to have enough chairs set out.
Monday, February 16th — No School: Presidents’ Day
Tuesday, February 17th — NW Theme Test
Students received a review sheet last Thursday for their NW theme test. Here are the links to the documents we sent out in Cycle 1 with information about what students may bring to the tests and suggestions for how to prepare.
Resources to Bring to the Tests
Wednesday, February 18th — SW Theme Test
Students will receive a review sheet for the SW test next week.
Friday, February 20th — Family Dance 7:00 – 8:30 PM
The Family Dance is a long-time OFS tradition and a wonderful social event. The dance is an opportunity for students of all ages and their families to get together to dance and have fun. This year’s theme for Family Dance is Global Glow.
The Ambassadors will be selling pizza, snacks and drinks to raise money. Students will be asked to bring a sweet or savory treat for the sale and will also be asked to work a short shift to staff the table; we will be sure to leave time for students to enjoy the dance as well. We will send out shift assignments closer to the event date. The working shifts will be from 6:30 (for set-up) through the end of clean up around 9:00. If a student is not able to attend or needs to work a particular shift, please let us know as soon as possible so we can plan accordingly.
Monday, February 23rd — Personal World Final Projects Due; 6th Grade Literature Projects Due
Students have Personal World final projects to complete independently outside of school. Next week, during final projects is a great time to work on these during homework time. All students also have literature projects to complete although the due date for 6th graders is different than for 7th and 8th graders. The 7th and 8th Grade literature projects are due Friday, February 27th.
Tuesday, February 24th — On Campus: Acknowledgements Celebration
To celebrate our first filling of our acknowledgements jar we will be having a movie (to be chosen by the students from a curated list) and a pizza lunch. We will provide cheese and pepperoni pizza and students are welcome to bring a lunch if they would like to eat their own food instead (or in addition) to the pizza provided.
Monday, March 2 — Cycle 3 Begins
As usual, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.
Take care,
Hannah and Pearl
