MMUN Update

Good afternoon.

We are three months from the MMUN conference and position papers are due two weeks after we return from break so I wanted to send a few updates and reminders.

Next Wednesday, December 17, students will participate in an online working session from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The topic of the session will be “Lowering your school’s carbon footprint.” Each student will need to create an NGO name for the group they will be representing. Other than that, no preparation is required. This session will be an opportunity for the students to be introduced to and practice with the rules of procedure that will govern the committee sessions they will be participating in while in New York.

Students need to be caught up on their position paper work (including all notecards, country-specific information, and the “Generating Solutions” packet) by Thursday so that we can start outlining the papers. When we return from break we will be focusing on drafting and revising so that the papers can be submitted on time. As a reminder, MMUN does not accept late papers and any delegates who do not have a paper to submit by the deadline will not be able to participate in the conference. I am at school late on Mondays and Wednesdays and am available to help students who need additional assistance to meet the deadlines; please let me know by email if you plan to stay late on one or more days.

The dates of the conference are Wednesday, March 11- Saturday, March 14. I will be purchasing our bus tickets before winter break and once I have the tickets secured I will let everyone know our trip details. We will likely be leaving late morning on Wednesday and returning on Saturday night.

Finally, I wanted to remind you that students will be expected to wear business attire (jackets and ties for boys, slacks/skirts and blouses or dresses for girls, dress shoes for all) for all committee sessions. There will be three days of committee sessions so students will need enough tops and bottoms for each day. I know some students are growing quite quickly so waiting until closer to the conference to buy clothes might be what is best for you, however, I know that there may be sales over the break that make it an appealing time to shop (also, don’t forget thrift/consignment stores are a great, often affordable, option).

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.

Take care.
Hannah
