7th/8th Grade Sexuality Education Starting in Cycle 2

Dear 7th and 8th Grade Parents,

In Cycle 2, 7th- and 8th-grade students will begin participating in the Our Whole Lives sexuality education curriculum by Pamela M. Wilson. I will be facilitating the lessons; this will be my seventeenth year teaching middle school students about these topics.

Oneness-Family School approaches the sexuality class with the same vision we do for all our academics:  “educating the whole child”.  There are two parts to teaching sexuality education: the biology of human sexuality and the social aspects of sexuality. Some of the focus areas will include:

Anatomy and Physiology
Sexuality and Body Awareness
Puberty
Sexuality and Society- Gender Identity, Sexual Orientation, Influence of the Media, Relationships

This age group is highly interested and curious about the changes in their bodies and what it all means.  They can also be awkward and embarrassed to ask questions.  This course will help answer some of the questions they are already trying to figure out.  We will encourage them to ask questions and will provide space in each class for questions to be asked anonymously.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to me with any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Hannah Chick
