OFHS IMPACT Program Update

Dear OFHS Families,

I hope you are all rested after a warm spring break! I am writing to share more information about our IMPACT Program and some exciting updates for your students in trimester three.

As you may know, students took a once-a-week internship and service class during trimester two, where they analyzed their personal values and interests in order to identify organizations where they would like to engage in service work or an internship. In the final weeks of the trimester, students began writing formal emails to these organizations to secure placements for the spring.

Because of our flexible schedule, students will have the opportunity to complete their service work and internships on Wednesday afternoons, from 1:00-4:00 pm, during the third trimester. Since each placement is individual, your student will be reaching out to you (and cc’ing me) once they have heard back from their prospective placements to ensure that they have adequate transportation home from their internship or service opportunity. We anticipate that most students will take public transportation to their sites, and there are many opportunities near campus, with one opportunity to stay on campus and support our Food Forest project.

Over the next few weeks, we will be doing final preparation, including lessons on how to prepare for an interview, proper etiquette in the workplace, and taking public transportation. We are excited for our students to start this next phase of the IMPACT program!

If you have any questions about the program, please feel free to reach out to me.

Best,

Andrew
