Upper Elementary (Grades 4-5)

Oneness-Family School is dedicated to providing both a Hybrid Learning Plan and a Distance Learning Plan for our Upper Elementary students. The Hybrid Plan is scheduled to begin once the Montgomery County virus metrics have met the guidelines for Hybrid Learning outlined in the school's Reopening Chart. This will be evaluated weekly. Please read below for specific information on each plan.

HYBRID LEARNING PLAN

Students in our Hybrid Learning Plan will attend class in-person and on-campus two days per week on Mondays and Tuesdays. Wednesday through Friday classes will be held via distance learning. Students will have an outdoor meet-up every Wednesday afternoon.

Distance Learning classes will have a strong focus on student engagement through modified high-interest instruction modules, small group lessons, and one-on-one student-teacher support sessions. Learning and project packets will be sent home to keep the Montessori hands-on element alive. While we intend to still meet all of our academic benchmarks, we will also be scheduling fun activities each week when students can share a passion or a skill, work on a project or play a game together.

Additionally, students will be meeting up each Wednesday afternoon for safe and socially distant activities at the park or outdoor excursions at a local nature trail. All outdoor activities will occur in “pods”, which are stable groups of students that do not intermingle with other students.

  • In-Person Classes: Weekly in-person, on-campus attendance on Mondays and Tuesdays from 9:00 AM – 3:45 PM. Students will be assigned a new laptop computer in class that they will use to access their materials as needed and to attend lessons with both class teachers and students in all pods.
  • Distance Learning Classes: All students will work in the Distance Learning program Wednesday through Friday. Wednesday morning classes will be followed by an outdoor meet-up in the afternoon as usual.
  • Weekly Outdoor Meet-Ups: There will be a weekly outdoor meet-up each Wednesday afternoon. Starting after Winter Break, all parents will be required to fill out the health form and take their child’s temperature at home before each outdoor meet-up. All students will need to have this health form filled out and their temperature taken in order to participate in the meet-up. We thank you for your attention to this additional safety measure as we enter the cold and flu season!
  • Student Pods: There will be two Academy student pods. One pod will be in the main classroom, while the second pod will be on the third floor in the Dawn Room, which will be set up as an additional Montessori classroom.
  • Arrival & Dismissal:
    • All parents with in-person students must fill out the Health Form and take their child’s temperature daily and show it to the Arrival Team. Once students have been cleared by the Arrival Team, they may enter the building.
    • Pod A will enter and exit through the front door of the school and up and down the front staircase and to their classroom. Pod B will enter and exit through the Parish Hall entrance, walk down the hall past the church office, and upstairs to the Dawn Room using the back stairs. Students in both pods will wash their hands and change into their indoor shoes before entering their classrooms.

DISTANCE LEARNING PLAN

Students in our Distance Learning Plan will continue with the current distance learning program and their fall semester schedules. Distance Learning students will be taught by both teachers and will join their lessons as usual via the classroom Logitech cameras and Zoom.

  • Distance Learning Classes: Morning classes will be held online from 9:00 - 11:00 am and afternoon classes will be held online from 1:15 - 3:00 pm. All upper elementary students will attend distance learning classes Wednesday through Friday. Distance Learning students will join class lectures and small group lessons through the use of the classroom Logitech cameras and Zoom.
  • Student Pods: The composition of our student pods may change as we transition to our hybrid and distance learning plans. Right now we are planning for two student pods. However, if many students are signed up for the Distance Learning plan, we will create one pod of in-person students that will spread over two classrooms. To compose these pods, we strive to balance returning and new students, as well as honor our belief in the power of a multi-age classroom.
