Middle School (Grades 6-8)

Oneness-Family School is dedicated to providing both a Hybrid Learning Plan and a Distance Learning Plan for our Middle School students. The Hybrid Plan is scheduled to begin once the Montgomery County virus metrics have met the guidelines for Hybrid Learning outlined in the school's Reopening Chart. This will be evaluated weekly. Please read below for specific information on each plan.

HYBRID LEARNING PLAN

Students in our Hybrid Plan will be grouped in two pods, alternating weekly between in-person and distance learning classes. In-person classes will be held on Monday, Thursday, and Friday each week. Classes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays will be held via distance learning. The daily schedule for all students (Hybrid and Distance) will be the same and both class teachers will continue to teach classes to all students. Weekly outdoor meet-ups will continue to be held on Friday afternoons.

Distance Learning classes will have a strong focus on student engagement through modified high-interest instruction modules, small group lessons, and one-on-one student-teacher support sessions. Students will use engaging technology to advance concepts throughout the curriculum and continue their work in learning groups to encourage student interaction and foster collaboration skills. While we intend to still meet all of our academic benchmarks, we will also be scheduling fun activities each week when students can share a passion or a skill, work on a project or play a game together.

Additionally, students will be meeting up each Friday afternoon for safe and socially distant activities at the park or outdoor excursions at a local nature trail. All outdoor activities will occur in “pods”, which are stable groups of students that do not intermingle with other students.

  • In-Person Classes: Weekly in-person, on-campus attendance on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM. During the in-person time, students will continue to work on computers and will be on Zoom as required for classes and lessons.
  • Distance Learning Classes: Students will attend lessons with both teachers. All students will have online classes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
  • Student Pods: We will have two student pods which will alternate being in-person each week. Pod A will begin in-person on January 11, 2021 while Pod B is online and Pod B will attend in-person on January 18, 2021, while Pod A attends online. If a class teacher is teaching more than 15 students over a two-week period, they will get a COVID-19 test on Thursdays each week.
  • Schedule: The daily schedule will remain the same for online learning. The in-person schedule will be slightly modified to accommodate logistical changes.

  • Outdoor Meet-Ups: Starting after Winter Break, all parents will be required to fill out the daily Health Form and take their child’s temperature at home before each outdoor meet-up. All students will need to have this health form filled out and their temperature taken in order to participate in the meet-up. We thank you for your attention to this additional safety measure as we enter the cold and flu season!

  • Arrival & Dismissal:
    • All parents with in-person students must fill out the Health Form and take their child’s temperature daily and show it to the Arrival Team. Once students have been cleared by the Arrival Team, they may enter the building.
    • The Ambassadors pod will enter through the Parish Hall entrance through the church office hallway, down the stairs and to the Ambassadors classroom. Students will wash their hands and change into their indoor shoes before entering their classrooms.

DISTANCE LEARNING PLAN

Students in our Distance Learning Plan will continue with the current distance learning program. They will be taught by both teachers throughout the week and will have the same daily schedule as the Hybrid Plan students.

  • Distance Learning Classes: Morning classes will be held online from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm and afternoon classes will be held online from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. All middle school students will attend distance learning classes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Distance Learning students will join class lectures and small group lessons through the use of the classroom Logitech cameras and Zoom.
  • Weekly Outdoor Meet-Ups:  There will be a weekly outdoor meet-up each Friday afternoon. Starting after Winter Break, all parents will be required to fill out the health form and take their child’s temperature at home before each outdoor meet-up. All students will need to have this health form filled out and their temperature taken in order to participate in the meet-up. We thank you for your attention to this additional safety measure as we enter the cold and flu season!
  • Student Pods: We will have two student pods, each of approximately 8-10 students. These pods will switch by week for in-person class time. Pods will be composed of middle school students from both the distance learning and hybrid learning plans.
