OFS Takes a Historic Step

2015 Tuesday, July 21

After nearly 3 decades of providing the highest quality Montessori education for children two years old through eighth grade, the Oneness-Family School is very excited to announce the opening of our high school in September 2016!

Our new high school will be based on central Montessori principles of independence, big picture thinking, innovation, collaboration and community.  We will be utilizing some of the most cutting edge thinking in curriculum design such as the ideas and rubrics developed by the QED foundation.  We will also be offering an International Baccalaureate diploma for 11th and 12th graders.

In September of 2016 we will begin with our 9th and 10th grade – and we will have grades 9-12 by September 2019.  Each year we will offer real world macro themes linked to specific course offerings.  Some examples of macro themes include: Sustainability, Innovation, Global Connections, & Democracy and Human Rights.  Within each macro theme, students will explore the work of national and international organizations that are dedicated to the respective areas of study.

OFS high school courses will meet all the Maryland State requirements for a secondary independent school, while at the same time providing considerable flexibility for students to choose projects, field studies and internships according the their specific interests. Our high school program will utilize cultural, natural and human resources both within (in person) and outside(via internet) the Washington, DC area.   A major component of our program will be student goal setting and progress tracking – in regard to core proficiencies.

Much more information will be available by October 1, 2015. In the meantime we invite you to visit the links below for important background on the core inspirations of our conceptual framework:
