MESSAGE FROM OUR
DIRECTOR:
Personal
Growth of each student
A core value of
the Oneness Philosophy is commitment to the personal growth of each
student. Executive Director Andrew Kutt believes that "We need to prepare
our young people to be citizens of a truly global society in the
twenty-first century."
The Oneness
Curriculum includes character building and multicultural understanding as
an integral part of the program. These values are also supported by
Special Events such as U.N. Day, the Peace Run and others.
Why aren't more
schools focusing on these concepts and learning more about cultural
differences or the meaning of the United Nations? According to Executive
Director Kutt, schools are so pressured to keep test scores high that
there is little room or time for curriculum ideas which build character,
spiritual principles, or multi-cultural understanding. "Our national
educational system is so much geared toward test results that I fear we
have forsaken all those aspects of personal growth which are not so easily
measured: emotional health, social responsibility, ethics and global
awareness." If a child does well on his/her standardized test, that does
not automatically imply he/she will be a successful or a happy individual.
Our job as
educators is much broader and deeper than simply preparing a student to
pass tests. We must prepare individuals to meet life's true challenges.
Our students learn not only academics, but also conflict resolution
techniques, creative problem-solving strategies, cooperation skills, keys
to successful social communication, and mind-body health awareness and
management."
