Community Programs
The Parent Partnership is an OFS version of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA). It is an expression of the School's philosophy bringing cooperation between parents and teachers/administrators, as well as connecting the home and school environment. Practically speaking the school organizes a number of events each year to deepen and enhance this relationship including guest speakers, open forums, school picnics, family dances, and other events. Additionally, each parent is asked to give 20 hours of community service to the School each year. Volunteer assignments and tasks are also organized via this partnership. The ultimate purpose is to insure that all stakeholders are working together for the benefit of the students and to further the mission of the school. One accomplishment was the drafting of a school constitution during 2006-2007, which was a comprehensive explanation of the school's values and principles.

Community Service is an important part of the School's curriculum and community life. It is an expression of one of the school's main pillars of manifestation (the other two pillars being academy and self discovery). Community Service can take on many different guises, including world service projects such as our work in Angola (educational supplies, toys, and medicine), Haiti (educational supplies and toys), and Niger (building permanent water sources). It can also take a local focus as students engage in a variety of activities, such as visiting nursing homes, helping at soup kitchens, gathering food and clothing for the homeless, and cleaning up local parks and streams. The overall purpose is to allow students "to expand their hearts of compassion" by getting involved in real life projects and building mutually beneficial relationships with others outside of our affluent and privileged community. |
