Oneness-Family School is a private, nonsectarian Montessori school founded in 1988 to educate children from Preschool through High School. Growing from just seven students, the school today serves 140 children who come from all around the world. It is located in Chevy Chase, MD, convenient to Washington, DC, and Bethesda, and enjoys easy access to parks and major cultural institutions.
Head of School Andrew Kutt founded OFS to provide child-centered learning with a global perspective. Rooted in educator Maria Montessori's century-old adage "follow the child," the school's innovative, progressive and evidence-based curriculum places equal emphasis on personal growth, academic excellence, and global citizenship.
The curriculum is shaped by the understanding that peace is a deep human value shared across race, culture, religion, and nationality. Approximately 60 percent of the school's families are from DC and Maryland, and 40 percent of families are based in the area for multi-year international assignments. There are more than 50 nationalities represented in the student body, which allows for a larger pool of opportunity to learn progressively from their environment. The diversity allows for different unfamiliar circumstances that will promote a creative approach and resolution per each student.
Oneness-Family School is a non-profit (501)(c)(3) educational institution governed by a Board of Trustees and staffed by a diverse, multilingual community of teachers and administrators. Together with OFS students and parents, they support the school's values-based approach and practices of inclusion, diversity, and multiculturalism.
